Not always, although it is possible. A stroke will kill brain cells, which are irreparable. It is possible that, like a cancer, the destruction of brain cells will continue to spread, however in this day and age, most stroke victims will recover fairly well, and further neurological damage will be prevented with medications and treatments.

Further strokes are also not uncommon. If it seems as though a stroke victim close to you has suddenly deteriorated, take them to a hospital immediately, as they may have had another stroke.
