The jersey number of the pitcher. If the game is over, the numbers represent the winning and losing pitchers of the game. If the game is still in progress, the numbers represent the pitchers currently in the game for the teams.

If the game is in progress the numbers are of the pitchers currently in the game. If the game is over, the numbers are the winning/losing pitcher of the game.

Pitch count has nothing to do with eligibility to be the winning pitcher. In a scheduled 9-inning game, the starting pitcher must pitch 5 complete innings to be eligible to be the winning pitcher. Relief pitchers must be the pitcher of record when the winning team takes the lead, and never relinquishes the lead, to be the winning pitcher.

No once the game is tied, the winning and losing pitchers will be determined at that time. The winning pitcher will be the pitcher who pitched the last out of the half inning before his team took the lead for good, and the losing pitcher will be the pitcher who allowed the winning run on base

The winning pitcher is the pitcher of record when the winning run is scored.

The official scorer still decides who is the winning pitcher in instances that are not covered by the baseball scoring rules (Rule 10.19). This occurs only for relief pitchers.

If pitchers' team is ahead when he leaves the game (all runners left on base that score, are charged to the pitcher that left them on base), he gets the win. The pitcher must pitch at least 5 innings in a game over 6 innings to get the win. If it is a tie game and the relieving pitcher's team wins, relieving pitcher gets the win. Otherwise he is charged with the loss. If the relieving pitcher's team is winning when he enters as a pitcher and then loses the game, the relieving pitcher is charged with a loss. If the relieving pitcher's team is winning when he enters the game as a pitcher and wins, the relieving pitcher is given a Save.

J.C. Romero was the winning pitcher in game 5 of the 2008 World Series.

New York Yankee pitcher Whitey Ford was one of the best New York Yankee pitchers and one of MLB's all time greats. He won the Cy Young Award in 1961 and he had an amazing winning percentage of .690. Tops for a modern league pitcher. As an aside, Whitey was known for his night clubbing with Billy Martin and Mickey Mantle.

Through the 2008 World Series, the last 3 Series to go 7 games: 1) 2002 - Angels v. Giants - the Angels won Game 7 and the winning pitcher was John Lackey. 2) 2001 - Diamondbacks v. Yankees - The Diamondbacks won Game 7 and the winning pitcher was Randy Johnson. 3) 1997 - Marlins v. Indians - the Marlins won Game 7 and the winning pitcher was Jay Powell.

Not necessarily. The "winning" pitcher is the one who most recently pitched when her/his team went ahead, without ever surrendering the lead. A starting pitcher must pitch at least five innings. Thus, the pitcher before the one that gets the save MIGHT get the win, but it is not guaranteed. If a team went ahead in the first inning and maintained the lead, and that team's starting pitcher pitched for more than five innings but had two relief pitchers to follow him, then the starter would be the "winning" pitcher and the final pitcher would have a chance at a save. But the second pitcher would have no chance for either a win or a save.

On a baseball roster the teams pitchers are categorized in two ways. The first is what hand they use -LHP/Left handed pitcher -RHP/Right handed pitcher The second is there role -Starter/A pitcher who starts the game normally there are 5 in a rotation. They normally go 5 to 7 innings but sometimes less and sometimes more. Some examples are CC Sabathia, Johan Santana, Josh Beckett, Brandon Webb, Cliff Lee. -Spot Starter/A pitcher which comes in either to start a game if the pitcher can't pitch, or comes in really early like in the first, second, or third if the pitcher surrenders a lot of runs or if the pitcher gets injured or ejected. This pitchers help minimize the use of the bullpen. -Long Relief/ A role of one of these pitchers is to come in most of the time there used if the starters comes out of the game like in inning 4 or 5 for giving up a lot of runs or injury or ejection. These pitchers are used to stablize the middle innings and contain the other team. These pitchers will go 2 to 3 innings which rests the rest of the bullpen. They might also be used if there is they are leading by a lot of losing by a lot in the 7th or 8th. -Middle Relief/They come in during the 6th or 7th inning which is when managers want there starters to leave normally. They come in to go a inning or two. -Set Up/A set up pitcher comes in during the 8th in close ball games. Most of the time when they are winning. These pitchers set up a portal to the closers. -Closer/Each team has a closer most have one but a few might have two. These pitchers come into a game in the 9th when they are winning by a few runs. Sometimes they might come into a game if they are winning by a lot just to get some work in. There job is to shut down the other teams offense and get a win. Some examples of these pitchers are Rivera,Paplebon, and K-Rod. Answer coutesy of MJWYMAN (Baseball Guru)

There are several ways that Walter Johnson was influential in baseball history. He was one of the first power pitchers of his era. He won 417 games which is the 2nd highest pitcher in history (after Cy Young's 511 winning games)

The winning pitcher is the pitcher of record when the winning run was scored. This could be the relief pitcher even though he gave up four runs, blowing the lead, if said relief pitcher was the pitcher of record when the winning run was scored. The starting pitcher, even though he pitched well in this situation, cannot be credited the win.

No, order is not considered.

tomorrow winning numbers?

In MLB, for pitchers with at least 15 decisions for the year, that would be Roy Face of the 1959 Pittsburgh Pirates who went 18-1 for a winning percentage of .947. For pitchers with at least 20 decisions for the year, that would be Greg Maddux of the 1995 Atlanta Braves who went 19-2 for a winning percentage of .905. Currently (September 13, 2008), Cliff Lee of the Cleveland Indians has a record of 21-2 for a winning percentage of .913. He has a shot at beating Maddux's record but has no shot at Face.
