It Depends.
a. If the person to whom you gave the check puts it into his account the same day, it will come to your bank account for payment the next day or worst case the day after that. So you will have at max 2 days
b. If the person puts it into his account the next day or the day after that day it will come for payment to your bank after 2 days. So you will have 2 or max 3 days to get money into your account.

Maybe if you mail it, but if not it won`t clear. Most payees are using electronic transfers now which means as soon as they get the check it is presented to the bank for payment electronically.
