Officially, a child can only have a Catholic christening if at least one parent is a Catholic, as the priest needs to have a "well-founded hope" that the child will be brought up in the Catholic Faith.

No, not really. Some religions do have rules but normally, the is no.

A godparent's job is to help in the religious training of a child. So a godparent should be christened if the child is Christian.

Can you have a child be baptised in the catholic church without being catholic?

Yes, you can,as long as the parents intend to raise child as Catholic and attend religious education classes, etc. The baptisng minister (priest/deacon) needs to have a founded hope this will happen. Parents should consider becoming Catholic in RCIA program. At least one of the baptism sponsors (godparent) needs to be catholic.

Can someone not baptised attend a Catholic church?

No, to be a Godparent at a Catholic baptism one must be a baptized and practicing Catholic. However, you may also have another sponsor in addition to the Catholic Godparent. That second person does NOT have to be Catholic. Technically, they probably don't need to be christened, but what would be the point of having someone be a Godparent who does not believe in Christ?

What are the requirements of a godparent?

The most important is that the sponsors be Catholics in good standing who are active Catholics and not dormant or fallen-away Catholics. They must also be willing to assure they will help the parents raise the child as a Catholic. Also, a non-Catholic may be one sponsor but at least one Godparent must be a Catholic.

If one parent is divorced and has a child can the child be baptized in the catholic church?

Yes, IF there is a well-founded hope that the child will be raised in the Catholic faith and you can convince your parish priest of this. You will need to receive instruction before this can happen, talk with your priest.

In baptism does the witness have to be Catholic?

At least one Godparent must be Catholic.

Can a Jehovah witness be a godparent to a catholic baptism?

No. A godparent needs to be Catholic. If there is one catholic godparent, another sponsor can be admitted as Chrsitian witness only, if not Catholic, but Jehovah would not be condidered Christian as they have different belief in the creed we recite during baptism

Can you christen your baby Catholic if you or your partner are not?

Catholics are Christians. So any baby baptised in a Catholic Church is being baptised as a Christian. If you want your baby to be a Protestant, another type of Christian, then you would not have them baptised in a Catholic church.

Can a non-Catholic be a Godparent?

If the couple is Catholic and not living in sin they can be. Otherwise, you would not be following the Catholic faith which is a requirement of being a God parent. The reason for being a God parent is to make sure the child is raised in the faith.

Can your sister-in-law be the godmother of your son if she is not Catholic?

Yes, however at least one godparent must be Catholic.

Can a non-Catholic Christian be a Godparent?

No. Your sponsorship is your endorsement of the ceremony. Since Catholics believe that the fullness of the truth is in the teachings of the Catholic Church, sponsoring a non-Catholic baptism would mean you are allowing a loved one to be raised without the fullness of the truth. Therefore, all Catholics shouldn't be a sponsor at a non-Catholic baptism. The proper thing for a Catholic to do is to express that you are happy they are entering into the Christian faith but remark that the Catholic Church is the only Christian church founded by Jesus and therefore, they remain a separated brother or sister from the church unless they become Catholic. Remember, the key is to love them with a Christ-like love. That means being honest and telling them the truth. Not to give a watered down consent for a ceremony that will not bring them into full union with Christ's Church.

How do you add a godparent on babydow.com?

You have to have at least one child in school. Then, you go to the babies page that you want to be the godparent of. If they don't already have a godparent, there is a button that says "Become godparent". Click it. A message will be sent to the owner of the baby, if they confirm it you have a godparent! Send them gifts! Add me! Charcharkazoo

Where is become godparent tab on babydow?

Well first of all, you can't become a godparent until one of your babies is in school. After one of them is in school you simply go to the child you want to be your godchild, and over to the right it will say "This baby has no godparent, be this babys godparent!!" Hope this helps!! :)
