Yes - you will need to complete at least 7 years of college. It takes at least three years to complete the pre-requisite classes in undergraduate college (any four-year college will work) then another four years to complete vet school.

Yes. Actually, if you're school-phobic, it's even worse than that: you have to go to veterinary school, and to even be considered for admission to veterinary school, you need to go to college.

Admission to most veterinary schools is highly competitive, and completion of an undergraduate (i.e. "college") degree is usually required for admission (a veterinary school associated with a university MAY grant admission to undergraduates from that university, but that's still "going to college" for at least a couple of years before entering the veterinary program).

Veterinary technicians are required (in most states) to have a degree in veterinary technology from an AVMA accredited veterinary technology program, to have passed the Veterinary Technician National Exam and a state exam in order to be credentialed. Part of the degree program does include hands on training both in school during in a real world clinical setting. The American Veterinary Medical Association maintains a list of accredited degree programs on their website: Inhttp://www.avma.org/education/cvea/vettech_programs/vettech_programs.asp

This will depend on the type of practice the veterinarian is in. A small animal veterinarian can work from a single clinic every day and never have to travel for work. In contrast, most large animal veterinarians are on the road all day every day.

No, vet school is strictly for veterinarians.

In order to become a veterinary technician, most states require you to have a 2-3 year degree in veterinary technology from an American Veterinary Medical Association accredited program. The AVMA keeps a list of all accredited veterinary technology degree programs on their website: http://www.avma.org/education/cvea/vettech_programs/vettech_programs.asp

No, but when applying for Vet Schools, it really helps to get accepted which is considered to be much harder to get into Vet School than it is to get into Medical School for People.
