Depends on which state you live in.
Not neccessarily. It may very from state to state and some states actually require full safety inspection as opposed to smogging but in Nevada (unless you're a dealer) you are not required to smog a vehicle prior to sale but the person who buys it will have to pass a smog inspection before they can register it with DMV.
yes
Either get it fixed or sell it to a place like a pull and pay yard.
I thought the selling owner needs to smog vehicle before selling it- the new owner does not need to re-smog the car.
I need to have the smog on my car checked.
If your license tag renewal is now due, yes, it must be redone.
What do you mean smog a car? If car is sold "as is", buyer is responsible for all mandatory smog control equipment. If you mean pass a smog inspection, there are none in Iowa.
Check with your local DMV for how long a smog cert is good for but you will need it before you go to get the car registered.
No, it is the seller's responsibility to provide the buyer with a Smog certificate that is less than 90 days old when selling the car. The law makes no provision for "as is" sales in this matter. I went to the DMV today as I purchased a car that was not smogged and I cannot locate the seller. I was told that I could sell it as is by 2 DMV personnel. Now I am really confused.
Yes that used car should pass smog inspection.
no
when they check your car!
Cars are only required to meet emissions standards as of the date of production. If it was produced before emissions were installed in vehicles, then the car is legal. I would inform any potential buyer of this fact, just to be safe and honest.
