In theory you don't. However, because of increased security in recent years, airlines insist on an acceptable form of photo ID before you are allowed to board an aircraft. A valid passport is the most acceptable form of ID. Check with the airline that you intend to travel with and ask if they will accept anything else if you haven't got a passport.

A passport is only needed to travel from one country to another country; it is not needed to travel within a single country from one city to another. (Historical side-note: the Soviet Union, before it collapsed in 1989, required what was known as an "internal passport" for its citizens to travel between one city and another within the Soviet Union. But those days are over.)

For security reasons, most airlines won't allow people to board a plane unless they have acceptable photo ID, even for a domestic flight. A valid passport is the most acceptable form of ID.

It is an internal flight in the UK, so a passport would not be required. Though, it is wise to carry some form of photographic identification on you when travelling - passport, driver's licence.

No, but photo ID of some sort needs to be shown before any passenger is allowed to board the plane. A passport could be used as a valid type of photo ID, as could a driving licence.

No - it is a domestic flight within the United Kingdom.

But you will need photo ID to pass through security, so it could be useful to take your passport.
