Laws ChangedIn Sept/Oct 2007, the laws have been changed and they seem to indicate that anyone leaving or entering the US from either Mexico or Canada must show a passport. AnswerGoing to Mexico isn't the problem ... Coming Back IS!! By 2008 or 2009 a passport will be required by every American citizen to pass between the countries of Mexico and/or Canada (Or...)We're assuming the questioner is from the US...

The question is in regard to New Mexico...the STATE tucked between Arizona and Texas and just below Colorado! State Captial is SANTA FE. and NO as yet passports are not needed to travel to or from this state.

No, passports are for international travel

If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to move freely among all 50 states.

If you are a foreign national, it's a good idea while traveling in the US to carry your passport with you, for identification.

From where? If it's from the US you won't need any (New Mexico is a state of the Union). I guess you are talking about the country of Mexico (Capital: Mexico City), in which case you will need a passport.
