If you want to qualify for most jobs, yes. Also have to have one if you want go to go college too. Yes, unless you want to be poor for the rest of your life. Even with a High School Diploma, you will have a hard time. Without it, you are doomed to live your live from paycheck to paycheck, unless you are extremely lucky or brilliant. Get that diploma and go to college or trade school.

∙ 15y ago"Drug and alcohol counselor" covers a broad range of jobs. However, to gain any professional certification towards a career, you would definitely need a diploma, as well as other training. The good news is, you can work in the field as a mental health tech, or in similar jobs, without prior training, and get your education on the side.
We presume you are a recovering alcoholic, addict or codependent. They make the best counselors. Personally, we would not recommend the field for a person who does not have that kind of connection with addicts and the addiction process, nor for a person with less than three years continuously sobriety in an active recovery program.

In Oklahoma, you can be a Licensed or a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor. As a CADC, you will need a Bachelor's Degree, and for a LADC you will need a Master's.
