Possibly. Women who have not gone through menopause are still fertile. The age of menopause varies for each woman. Generally, once you have not had a period for 2 years, you have experienced menopause and no longer need Birth Control.

If you are in a stable relationship where STIs aren't a question then I would suggest an IUD, implants or contraceptive injection. Speak to your doctor or nurse. They'll be best placed to advise you. Kudos for recognizing you need birth control. There are plenty of women out there who figure 'being too old to conceive' is reliable. It's not!

If a woman is still menstruating, it makes sense to use something for pregnancy prevention if she isn't seeing pregnancy. In addition, some women use hormonal birth control in perimenopause (the years leading up to menopause) to control symptoms like irregular or excessive bleeding. For advice specific to your situation, talk with your health care provider.

Women in their forties are the second most likely group to experience an unintended pregnancy (after women in their teens). Women who are still menstruating are still at risk for pregnancy. Birth control options for a woman of 49 will depend on her medical history, smoking status, and other needs. Some women are attracted to the Mirena IUD, as it can control heavy periods which can be troublesome during perimenopause. However, women of 49 may use the full range of birth control methods. (However, tubal ligation at this age is rather cost ineffective.)

Lots of women in their 40's take birth control pills. If not for contraception, some are given the pill to help regulate their menstrual cycles and flows.

Yes, they do, if they've had a period in the last year. Women in their 40s have high rates of unintended pregnancy.
