I don't think many doctors but you get a few "quacks" out there there who will. I know someone who goes to a pain management clinic and is prescribed 360 Oxycodone 30 MG HCL(3 tablets, 4 times a day), 120 Oxycontin 80 MG tablets(1 tablet, 4 times a day), and 360 Methadone 10 MG HCL(3 tablets, 4 times a day) every 30 days. Now I know my friend has pain from 20 plus years of type 1 Diabetes but I know this person does not need that much pain medication as I don't think anyone does. Methadone in most cases is used for opiate withdrawl where as Oxycodone is used for moderate to severe pain. I do not know much of the dosage of methadone but I know know oxycodone can be prescribed in 2.5 mg, 4.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 15mg, 20mg, and 30mg. They are all different though some contain tylenol(APAP), some contain Asprin(sorry not familiar with the abbreviation), and some are immediate release. So Sorry for rambling on and on so the point is yes some doctors do. For more information on oxycodone. Hope this answers your question and then some.
Oxycontin is prescribed to people who have suffered severe injuries, cancer, or Arthritis those are only few of the reasons why a doctor prescribes this drug. However many abuse it to get a similar high such as heroin.
