Karak is a General Caste in West Bengal and some other states in India. Karak general caste are considered higher foward castes and belong to business, agriculture, industrial castes like Mahisyas, Kshatriyas. Sources take them back to the Narmada region in India, which used to be known as Mashimati long time back. Many provincial Kings and Dynasties / landlords have been associated with the Mahisya caste, who have strong agrarian routes and have developed their business beyond agricultural zones and rank in the high income groups. However, it is a multi-caste Surname like Sarkar, Roy, Mondal, Ghosh, etc. in Bengal, wherein some people can belong to OBCs and SCs also.. So, it is best to verify the caste and gotra during or before any religious or nuptial ceremony to avoid conflict.
ROY is a title given by the rajas and later by the british also to zamindars....it doesn't necessarily belong to one particular caste.its a title endowed on a brahmin,baidya,kayastha....even lower castes take up the surname roy to escape humiliation...so they may have any gotra depending on their caste.
It is insulting to Sikhism to go on about a Jatt surname. Guru Gobind Singh instructed Sikh men to take the surname of Singh and Sikh women to take the surname of Kaur to battle this caste nonsense. Last names in India are thousands of years old and each one originating there is associated with caste. Please try to change your mentality even though you live in a caste ridden country where the Sikh ideology is repressed, especially if you are a Sikh you should know better. Go ask racsists (that is what castists are), don't attack Sikhism in this way.
