There are 4 g of sugar in a tablespoon of a regular ketchup. In comparison, there are almost 4.9 g of sugar in 1.5 fluid ounces of carbonated soda. In most cases regular carbonated soda will have more sugar than ketchup. The ketchup and soda will be very close to having the same number of calories with soda having slightly fewer.

Cornstarch is a binding agent.

The sweetener in sodas in the Unted States is usually High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS).

A 20 ounce Coke has approximately 15 teaspoons of sweetener. That means every ounce has about 3/4 teaspoon and 1.5 ounces has about 1 teaspoon of HFCS.
