El Dia de los muertos , is basically called the day of the dead in English. This is a celebration of the people that have passed on / died. Mostly the families go down to the cemetery and tidy up the graves. In Spain it is a National holiday, with some regions holding barbecues and parties to celebrate the lives of the people who have died.
El Dia de los Muertos in Spanish basically means Day of the Dead. Halloween remember the day when it was thought the monsters could escape into this world. The only similarity is that they can both have dead in it. El Dia de los Muertos celebrates and respects their dead relatives while Halloween makes fun of monsters.
Brazil does not have Dia de los Muertos. Brazil speaks Portuguese and not Spanish. Brazil celebrates Dia de Finados (which technically translates as Day of the Dead as well, but literally translates as "Day of the Deceased" or "Day of the Departed"). It's celebrated on November 2nd. On that day some people go to the cemetery to leave flowers and offer a prayer to the deceased family member. It is a solemn celebration.
