I suggest that you contact a retailer of lift chairs - they will know what's covered. If they claim that the chair is covered but they're not willing to submit the claim, find another retailer.

Medicare will no longer reimburse the entire cost of the lift chair but it will pay for the cost of the lifting mechanism. Under Medicare, the lift mechanism is considered durable medical equipment (DME) which is covered if your doctor prescribes it for use in your home. The total amount of reimbursement can vary from state to state, but it is usually around $300.

If you are a senior and you qualify for Medicare then they will most likely pay a large percentage of the cost of your lift chair. They almost never pay the entire cost but they will help you considerably. You can contact your local Social Security Office to find out if you are eligible and some lift chair companies will even do the work for you.

Lift Chairs are mostly covered under Medicare, but this coverage will not always be 100%. As of today Medicare will provide maximum $280 reimbursement. To receive this coverage you also need to prove that the patient has severe Arthritis of the hip or knee or have a severe neuromuscular disease, the physician must have advised a lift chair and the patient should not be able to stand up from any given regular chair.

No, it doesn't. Medicare part B covers some medical equipment used in the home; however, it does not cover the cost of installation of permanent equipment.

Medicare covers different types of portable equipment and medical supplies but, it does not pay for contruction or installation of permanent equipment. It will cover a lift to get a patient out of bed but not to get them up and down the stairs.

I had a tubal ligation with Medicare as primary and Blue Cross Blue Shield secondary in 2008 thru Allina clinic in MN. I am very mad that it ended up costing me $1500 out of my pocket which to me makes no sense! Medicare paid $3000 and Blue Cross paid less than $100.

Should Retired Civil Service employee with medicare and tri-care keep blue cross and blue shield?

That would be an awful lot of money. I would look into tricare for life and medicare and compare the costs to blue cross blue shield. With any of the three you are going to have some deductible but that deductible will be far less than the premiums for all three. The government is tampering with Tricare and medicare right now to try and find ways to save money but Blue cross and blue shield will be raising your rate soon also.

You want blue cross to be primary and medicare to secondary can you do that?
