Naruto Shippuuden is the anime adaptation of part 2 of the naruto manga. It will probably end there because of the events going on right now.

it has to be because the manga is getting closer to the final chapter where sasuke and naruto will once again meet face to face in battle.

It takes place after some time has passed after Sasuke left Konoha. Note that only the anime called is Naruto Shippuden, but the manga kept the title of Naruto after the transition.
