I'm not sure if you are asking about New York City, or New York State. New York City is a seaside city, which means there are a lot of wetlands and salt marshes. Parts of New York City -- like the Lower East Side -- were built over swamps. There is also the Great Swamp, about 60 miles from New York City (see the Related Link below).
