If it is the 2.5 then it is an interference engine . If it is the 3.5 then it is a on interference engine.
is a 2.5 a interference motor
Yes it does
A 2000 Nissan Altima is an interference engine which has very tight tolerance. A slight misalignment can cause the pistons and valves to slam into each other.
You cannot know by looking at it. This is why the belt is changed at a set mileage as listed in your owners manual. You change it when your vehicle reaches that mileage. You did not list make, model, & year so I cannot tell you the mileage at which it should be changed. Warning: If your engine is an interference engine and the belt breaks you will have serious engine damage.
According to the Owner's Manual, it should be changed at 90,000 miles. I am still trying to find out whether it is an interference or non-interference engine. If it is a non-interference engine, the timing belt breaking won't cause engine failure.
It has an interference engine. The cam belt must be changed at 90,000 miles. The VTEC engine also has a balance shaft belt that also must be changed. Non-VTEC engine does not have the balance shaft belt.
The Subaru 2.5 L engine is a non-interference engine. If you change the timing belt when it should be changed you don't need to worry either way.
it is an interference engine, so get you timing belt changed
The manufacture lists the mileage at which the timing belt must be replaced. On vehicles that have an interference engine if the belt breaks you will have serious internal engine damage. The mileage at which it must be changed varies from 60,000 to 110,000 miles. As you did not list your make, model, year, or engine size I can give you no definitive answer. Look in your owners manual.
You don't. The chain is designed to last the life of the engine and is normally replace during a complete engine rebuild.
It is an interference engine. It is an interference engine.
