Yes - because an airplane and a bird both flying exist in a potential field field (gravity) and can be moved by that force, they both have potential energy. How much depends upon their altitude. As well, because they both have a velocity in forward flight, they both have kinetic energy.

Mostly kinetic energy, as it has a very high velocity. The formula for kinetic energy is KE = 1/2mv2, where m is mass in kg, and v is velocity in m/s. The formula for potential energy is PE = m•g•h, where m is mass in kg, g is 9.8m/s2, and h is height above the ground. Notice that velocity (motion) is not a part of the potential energy formula.

What force causes Potential energy turn to kinetic energy?

Gravitational force is most commonly associated with potential energy.Whenever we lift an object (move it further from the earth's center), like taking it from the bottom of a hill to the top, or taking it from the floor and placing it on a shelf, table, or chair; we increase the potential energy of the object.

Name the type of energy that is required for photosynthesis to occur?

An elementary-level answer would be : chemical and light energy Light energy from the sun Chemical from the plant itself. light would be when the sun gives its light to help the plant grow like a light bulb, and chemical is like the plant taking the water, and soil and using it and the plant itself is chemical

Does a roller coaster use potential and kinetic energy?

I'm taking a physics final tomorrow, so i know this. Potential Engergy: (change in potential energy) =mgh (h is the change in the elevation)(m is mass)(g is gravity which is 9.81) Kinetic Energy: Energy =(1/2)mass x velocity(squared)

How is electricity produced in a wet cell?

The gravitational and electrical pootential are quite similar . Like a difference in the gravitaional potential causes the movement of the mass to a lower potential point simmilarly in an electric field a charged particle also has an electric potential or electric potential field simmilar to a mass has in a gravitational field . Suppose a negatively cahrged object and a positive test charge is placed near it then as we all know that the positive test charge will be attracted towards the negatively charged object . Now if we want to move tha +ve test charge away from the negatively charged object them we will have to spend some energy and that energy will get converted into the electric potential energy . This means that we did do some work in in moving that +ve test charge away from the -ve sphere and spent energy in doing so . Thus its electric potential enrgy increased . Thus there is some electric potential difference between the the two points - the initial pont and the second point . This potential difference will cause the test charge to move to the initial point and the electric potential energy will get converted into kinetic energy or useful work . Thus now we know that a potential difference is required to move the charge . If a charged body is connected to an uncharged body by a conductor then charge will flow from the charged to the uncharged body . This means the charge will flow from the high potential(charged body) to the low potential (uncharged body). A dry cell provides current and to do so it maintains a potenial difference . By the chemmical reactions taking place in the dry cell the charges are maintained on the respective electrodes and hence a potential differnce is maintained which causes the elctrons to flow when the cell is connected to a load . I normal AA cell has a standard potential difference of 1.5 volts which means 1.5 joules of energy is carried by every 1 coulombs of the charge and this energy is used in the load to produce power . Gradually the chemicals get used up and the cell gets discharged .

When does an object have the same potential and kinetic energy?

When it is not moving or think of it like this when you climb a cliff when your on the top you have potential energy but as you climb down you are starting the state of kenetic energy. Therefor potential energy is when you are not moving. Or when energy is stored.

How does the sum of Kinetic and gravitational Potential energy change?

The answer depends on the situation. For example, the sum of the kinetic and gravitational potential energy of an aircraft which is taking off will increase.

When does a falling object have the greatest energy?

A falling object has the greatest potential energy when it is highest, at the beginning of the fall. It has the greatest kinetic energy when it is at its lowest, at the end of the fall. Without taking friction or air resistance into account, the beginning potential energy is the same as the final kinetic energy. If friction is considered, the beginning potential energy is greater.

When does the skier have the greatest potential energy?

Just standing there, a skier on the top of the mountain has potential energy. If she uses her poles to push-pull before taking off, she's building up a small amount of kinetic energy. If a skier is then moving down the mountain, his movement downward is kinetic energy which increases as his speed increases. If he or she collides with an immovable object while skiing, kinetic energy abruptly ends. If he or she takes off from the top of the mountain and an avalanche happens to hit at the same time, the kinetic energy of the avalanche engulfs the skier and overpowers the lower kinetic energy of the skier. The skier and avalanche become as if one in the kinetic force of the avalanche--until the skier collides with something or is buried, and thus is separated from the avalanche's kinetic energy which continues until the avalanche stops.

Is the sun potential or kinetic energy?

Solar energy is defined as radiant energy. Radiant energy is electromagnetic energy that travels in transverse waves. There are differences in opinion on whether radiant energy is potential or kinetic energy.

As an object falls in free fall what energy is taking place?

Potential energy is converted to kinetic energy as the object gains speed. A small amount of that energy is converted in heat by air resistance and the remaining kinetic energy is normally converted to heat when it strikes the ground. Some energy may be converted into other forms of energy depending on impact speed.

What are the energy changes in a plane taking off?

The chemical energy in the fuel flows to the engines, which combine the carbon and hydrogen in the fuel with oxygen from the air, to produce heat, carbon dioxide and steam. The heat produces kinetic energy in the hot exhaust gases which leave the engine at high speed. The reaction drives the plane forward and it accelerates, gathering kinetic energy. After takeoff the aircraft rises and gathers potential energy as well as kinetic energy. A Boeing 737-800 with a mass of 85 tons flying at 35,000 ft has a potential energy of 9 Gigajoules. Flying at 400 kt its kinetic energy is 1.8 Gj.

What type of energy does a plane have taking off?
