For most presidents, it's a pay cut, but this is not because they don't get a (significant) salary, it's because they were already rich to start with.
The current salary for the US President is $400,000 per year. The president also has a $50,000/year expense account, a $100,000/year travel allowance, and a $19,000 entertainment budget. Some of the expenses of being president are covered by the government directly (for example, the US government pays for state dinners). Others are not: personal meals for the president, his family, and guests (other than official diplomatic guests) must be paid for by the president. Still, the total compensation package is well over a half-million per year, and part of it is not subject to personal income tax. So it's not like he's hurting for money.

∙ 14y agoThe president gets paid salary, he does not get a check every month or week, he will be on "direct deposit" for want of another way to say it and a staff member will make sure his blackberry bill and mortgage is paid.
