Under normal conditions the timing chain will last the life of the engine. It is normally replaced during a complete engine rebuild.
It should not need to be replaced under normal conditions.
it has timing chains on the back side of the engine, it would need to be overhauled (Removed out of the car) to be replaced
Timing chains do not need to be replaced, only timing belts. Save your money and don't let the car dealer tell you otherwise.
The Prizm has a timing CHAIN, not belt. The timing chain does not get replaced on a scheduled interval. It should never need to be replaced. The serpentine belt, however, does need to be replaced. Inspect the belt for cracks and glazing, and replace. It is not a difficult DIY job. It is easiest to do it from under the car, after removing the splash pan.
I cant be sure, so you should consult a service manual for your car, but I don't believe that the timing chain would need to be replaced in a car that new. If it was making noises, then maybe. A timing chain shouldn't go out before 150k. If it actually has a timing belt then once again check your manual, but i believe its in the 90-100k range.
i took my car to dealer today to have the timing belt replaced and they informed me that it does not have a timing belt. My 2003, 6 cylinder Toyota 4 runner has a chain that does not require replacement
It has a timing chain. Should last the life of the car.
there is a timing chain on the car no belt.
This car uses a timing chain, there is no set time interval to replace a timing chain, they last the life of the car in most cases. My opinion "It has a timing chain and it needs to be changed and should be replaced every 150,000 to 174,000 miles most 90,000 to 110,00 minimum." I can give you valuable info from the manual in exchange for your help.
We have the same car, and it has a timing chain.
That would be a timing chain for this car.
The Pontiac Grand Prix has a Timing Chain with a spring loaded tensioner. The tensioner is know to wear, crack and then break. The timing chain and tensioner should be replaced at 100,000 miles. This is a pretty big job that can be done with the motor in the car. $$$ Ray
