It depends where in the ocean. If its in the deep bottom where almost or no light reaches than the basis would be unicellular bacteria. if its at top it would be algae including seaweed and etc.

converts sunlight to biomass. algae is the base of the food chain
true
Algae form the main basis of the aquatic food chain.
Algae feed small fish which starts the food chain.
The role of Algae in Ocean and food chains is to be producer for all different kind of consumer. in the food chain its show the feeding relation to consumer.

It forms almost every ecosystem because they are the producers and pastures of them. Small organisms eat and big follow.
Seaweed, seagrass, kelp, green algae, red algae and brown algae are six commonly-known ocean plants. Plants, or producers, are vital to the health of ocean ecosystems and serve as a food source to higher organisms.
Producers are: organisms that produce there own food, such as plants. I do do not believe that animals can be producers-it's impossible. An example are like plankton, algae, and other plants that are i the ocean.
I only know some of the ocean resources. Some of them is oil, minerals, algae, food, and renewable energy and/or resources
One-celled organisms called diatoms are the beginning of most ocean food chains.
There are two- algae and phytoplankton. These are small plants and animals in the ocean.
The primary producer is a marine algae called phytoplankton. This algae floats around in the sunlit areas of the Ocean giving it its name: phyto=plant, plankton=floating. It is the source of food for many fishes and is responsible for most of the world's oxygen.
Sea urchins eat endlessly as long as there is food they are eating. They eat the algae growing in slat water tanks and the ocean.
