The inverter isn't run off the alternator... it's run off the battery. The alternator simply recharges the battery.

If the alternator fuse is bad, the alternator is not going to work properly to charge the battery. An alternator runs off the serpentine belt, with graphite brushes inside that conduct electricity to charge the battery.

No, there is not a fuse on the alternator.

The alternator does not actually have a fuse. The alternator has a regulator. The regulator is mounted on the top of the alternator.

The wires that go off the alternator are fused, meaning that will break the circuit by melting.

ALternator fuses, if equipped may be on the battery post, in a fuse box, or in the wire going from the battery to the alternator.

A fuse in the wire harness? I don't believe I have ever run across a fuse link coming out of the alternator, in either '87 to 91 model. Please correct me if I am wrong someone. If you have a charging problem, check the out put at idle and and say 2000 rpm. I have never run across a fuse link in my Chevy either.

I would look in the fuse block that is under the hood. A fuse that would be used would be very large,,,at least 100 AMP. There is no fuse directly for the Alternator but there will be a fuse between the alternator AND the fuse block under the hood,,,that would be , probably a 60 Amp fuse. If you aren't getting any voltage from the alternator, either the alternator is bad or the internal voltage regulator is bad.

Generally there is NO fuse between the alternator and battery.

There is no fuse for the alternator.

assuming that no one has cut a wire, the alternator is probably bad. could be a fuse. Depending on car, it could be a fusible link. Process of elimination. The main large wire on the back of the alternator runs to the battery. Should be smaller wire on the positive cable.

check the fuse box or it could mean the alternator is broken i checked the fuses and alternator they are both fine

I have a 1997 ford expedition that the alternator is not charging the battery. Had the alternator tested and it was good the battery is new. Cant find the fuse for the alternator does anyone know where it is?

User Avatar

Yes, there is an alternator fuse for a 1992 Saturn SL2. It is easy to replace and is found in the fuse box of this car.

User Avatar

There isn't a fuse for the alternator. The alternator is belt driven, and there'll be two lines coming from the alternator - one goes from the alternator positive to battery positive, and the other goes to ground.

it can be caused by a bad alternator
