no. all geo metro 1.0L motors are non-interference motors. however it would be a very good idea to make sure the timing belt tensioner spring and tensioner roller and timing gears were not damaged by the bad timing belt. also you will have to clean out any debris at the crank position sensor at the crankshaft when installing the new timing belt so the fragments will not interfere with the sensor picking up the timing signal off the motor
VAlves are fine it will not bent valves
Luckily in the Geo the valves never travel down far enough for the piston to hit it so even with the timing belt broken its safe you can crank the car over til your blue in the face with out hurting anything.
i need timeing marks for a 1999 1.3 chevy metro
Chevy Metro 2001 (1.3 L) has a timing belt - hard driving conditions require its replacement at 60,000 miles, otherwise the timing belt replacement is scheduled for 100,000 miles.
chevy
The 1996 Chevy 1.3 liter engine timing marks can be found on the front main pulley and on the flywheel. The timing marks will be scattered around the outside of both locations.
timing does not need to be set on the 1.3l engine in model year 1999 as it is a distributor less igniton system all timing is done by the ecm
on the front bottom part of oil pan. just behind the bottom pulley.
can someone tell me how to adjust timing on a geo metro 1996
Yes, if it's a 3 cylinder sounds like timing belt has slipped so crank and rocker arm are out of sink(timing). get a book from auto parts store , will tell you how to check
every 100K miles, unless you drive it really hard ... if so, replace it sooner
The ignition timing for a 1989 Geo Metro 1.0L engine is 12 degrees BTDC. (Note, first production year for the Geo Metro was 1989 rather than 1988). In 1988 Chevy did produce the Sprint model ... in which case the timing would be as follows: With 2bbl carb: 6 degrees BTDC for automatic transmission models; 10 degrees BTDC for manual trans models. With fuel injection: 12 degrees BTDC Additional info: Distributor rotation is counter-clockwise; firing order is 1-3-2
