In my tank I use Plantation Soil (name on substrate). I don't use sand because it doesn't allow easy burrowing. I put 3-4 inches so he can burrow. They'll also do some of their own renovating. There's a semi low shelf that has a center stabilizer and suction cups to the glass. I have a piece of drift wood that he burrowed under as a bed and some plants to add color hanging high on the glass. They are a ground dwelling lizard but mine likes to bask on the shelf. I have a bendy branch that has some leaves wrapped around it that he aslo likes to crawl up on.
