Scoliosis can not be 'cured', sadly. It can be slowed down with a brace if your curve is under 50 degrees. And if you're nearly 18 you will probably be reasonably straight by the time you stop growing, however if it progresses you will need the surgery. If you have been told to have an operation i suggest you take it.
It's hard but it will be worth it in the long run (I had the operation about 4 months ago, I actually had to have two operations; I know it can be scary).

The question is very broad, as chiropractic treatment usually includes many things like manipulation, mobilization, soft-tissue therapy, traction, physiotherapeutic modalities (laser, electrotherapies, etc) diet and exercise recommendations, ergonomic advice, orthotics, etc. However, I will assume that you are asking about the primary treatment that doctors of chiropractic are known for - Spinal manipulation. There are many theories that may explain how spinal manipulation works. Some proposed theories are: 1 - increases mobility in joints 2 - stimulates mechanoreceptors 3 - resets proprioceptive muscle spindles 4 - causes a systemic release of endorphins 5 - affects the autonomic nervous system Likely it is not a single mechanism, but a combination of many of the above theories that ultimately results in the favourable outcome that patients get from chiropractic care.
