I am not sure if Cipro has penicillin in it or not, but I have been allergic to penicillin since I was little and then a few years ago found that I had the same reaction (hives) after taking Cipro...so I don't know, but that's my experience.

∙ 14y agoNo. Ciprofloxacin is a different kind of molecule. It is a derivative of nalidixic acid, whose structure has been modified by substituting halogens such as fluorine and chlorine. People who are allergic to penicillin are NOT allergic to Cipro class antibiotics, and vice versa. (note: I am a pharmacist)

∙ 14y agoCiprofloxacin is a member of a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones which also includes levofloxacin and ofloxacin. The penicillins are a separate distinct antibiotic class which includes medications like augmentin, oxacillin.

-Conjunctivitis ( related to eye disease ).
-urinary tract infection ( UTI )
-Bone infection.
-Typhoid fever.
