It would be wrong to state that condution does not occur in liquids but yes the solids are better conductors because of the presence of more number of free electrons especially in the case of metals and also because of their crystal lattice structure.

Thermal conduction occurs more rapidly in solid materials rather than in gasses because molecules in a solid are more tightly and closely bound to each other, and are therefore able to transfer molecular kinetic energy (heat) more quickly from molecule to molecule.

I'm not sure that it does occur more readily in the solid state. Solids cannot conduct heat by convection, thus what is left for heat transfer from one metal to another is conduction. Gas and liquid states can do both, conduction and convection.

Conduction happens when fast moving (hot) particles collide with others next to them and share their energy. This happens easily with the close packed particles of a solid, but it's much more difficult in a gas where there are large spaces between the particles.

Convection can only happen in fluids, because the energy is carried by particles moving through the substance. In a solid, each particle has a fixed position in the structure.

Conduction works best in solids because the solids absorb the heat.
