It is very doubtful that gluten causes hyperactivity in children however it can certainly cause problems in some people that would look a lot like hyperactivity. Some children (not many, but some) are allergic to the gluten or suffer from gluten intolerance and ingesting it can cause a range of symptoms and even malnutrition if it progresses to celiac disease.
