If you must have a tan, try some of the tanning lotions that chemically change your skin color.

However it is an observable phenomenon that when you put moisturizing cream on dry skin, the skin does look darker.
That is because dry skin looks powdery, as a result of the outer layer being rougher and therefore reflecting light in a broken manner. The moisturizer makes the skin smoother, allowing the light to reflect from one long smooth surface.
