yes, magnetism is a non-contact force, just because something is not magnetic doesnt mean it wont go through it, much like gravity except some things are magnetically neutral

No, not if the material is too thick. If the material fully saturates the magnetic field, there are times when even iron will not transfer magnetism, believe it or not.
