By definition, osmosis does not require the transport of particles or energy in the process. Osmosis is the movement of water through a semi-permeable membrane from an area of low solute concentration to an area of high solute concentration.

No, carrier porteins do not require energy because of a proccess called diffusion. Diffusion is the passive (no energy required) transport of substances across a membrane. There are three common types of diffusion, simple, facilitated, and osmosis. The one which requires carrier proteins to carry substances which are unable to cross into the membrane is called facilitated diffusion. Diffusion occurs because substances must move down the concentration gradient. This means that an area substance is higher in quantity will transfer the substance in question to an area with a lower quantity of the substance. The term for having a higher concentration of a substance is hypertonic and the term for having a lower concentration of a substance is called hypotonic. Isotonic means that the concentration is in equilibrium and the substance is transferring between both areas constantly.

No, it's passive transport - that means it doesn't require energy to diffuse. Osmosis is the diffusion of water through a semi-permeable membrane, so no carrier protein is needed for it to pass through the membrane.

Carrier proteins do not require energy to transport amino acids into a cell?

diffusion

What process changes the shape of transport proteins when a particle binds with it?

Carrier Proteins. Some don't require ATP (Facillitated transport) and some do require ATP (Active transport) to change shape.

What are a series of carrier proteins?

Active transport involves carrier proteins. Carrier proteins bind themselves to particles and transport them to highly concentrated areas within a cell.Facilitated diffusion and active transport require carrier proteins.

What is the process by which molecules such as glucose are moved into cells along their concentration gradient with the help of membrane bound carrier proteins called?

The process by which molecules such as glucose are moved into cells along their concentration gradient with the help of membrane bound carrier proteins is called facilitated diffusion. Facilitated transport is passive and does not directly require chemical energy from ATP.

Does facilitated diffusion require membrane proteins?

NO, it does not always require a carrier protein!!

Why do transport proteins require energy to function in active transports?

because

What proteins require ATP?

ATP is the energy currency of life that provide energy to the biological reactions. Kinases that phosphorylate their substrates require ATP. Membrane channel proteins that conduct active transport needs ATP. These proteins utilize the energy found in ATP, by breaking them in to ADP plus inorganic phosphate.

Is a carrier protein an active transport or a passive transport?

They are used in both, in passive the molecules move in , then change the shape then leave and the entering and leaving are both by diffusion. in active transport molecules move in by diffusion, change the shape of the carrier protein, then because theyre moving into the cell where the molecule is in higher concentration energy is required to push the molecules out of the carrier proteins, this energy comes from ATP which is supplied to the carrier proteins.

What consist of long chain of amino acids?

Proteins contain long chains of amino acids. The amino acids in protein are what give proteins their high energy content.

Is there another name for carrier proteins?

Channel proteins.

What two ways could you expect the movement of water into a cell by osmosis to be similar to the diffusion of oxygen?

They both go along the concentration gradient (high to low), they are both passive, do not require energy and no channel or carrier proteins are required.

The carrier proteins that help in facilitated diffusion are what kind of proteins?

Integral proteins
