Only certain human food prepared a certain way can be fed to dogs. Many human foods are not able to be processed well and will cause pancreatitis which a very serious illness. The rule of thumb is to never feed your pet human food.

A dog's regular diet should be dog food. See the related question below about dog foods vs people foods for dogs for information on why feeding people food to dogs is not a good idea except in small amounts as treats on special occasions.

However, some people food is good for dogs and can be given as treats, such as raw fruits that are low acid like blueberries, apples and Pears. I've had dogs who picked apples from a tree to eat them. They also need some vegetables in their diet and mine love a treat of a piece of carrot or broccoli (I've known dogs who would dig up carrots from a garden to eat). Canned pumpkin is very good for them for fiber in their diets and also is good for their skin and coats, so for a 50 pound dog, a 1/4 or 1/2 can of canned pumpkin (not the kind for pies that already has sugar in it, though) mixed with their kibble is good for them and they love it (adjust amounts fed to size of dog).

I used to give mine fish (they loved it) but now with the increased Mercury content in most fish available I have eliminated that from their diets.

Those who are into feeding raw meat diets give them whole raw chicken necks or other chicken parts that are very good for them, especially their teeth and coats. But never feed dogs any cooked bones, only raw ones, and you have to be careful for yourself and family when feeding raw meats to be sure you do not contaminate yourself or home with bacteria, it won't hurt the dogs, but might hurt you if you don't follow raw meat handing precautions.

Always introduce new foods in small amounts gradually over time so their systems can adjust, otherwise they will get diarrhea.

Do not feed:

  • Mayonnaise or other high fat foods (diarrhea)
  • Large quantities of bread (constipation) a small piece is okay.
  • Chocolate (contains a toxic substance that can be harmful and kill them)
  • Candy (bad teeth and too many calories)
  • Raw onions (toxin)
  • Grapes (toxin)

What do you mean by "people food"?

Do you mean things chicken, beef and lamb?
If that's the case, then yes, it is good for them. It is their natural diet if they were still in the wild. In fact, to label it as "human food" is wrong, because it is food for every carnivore on the planet. Animals have been eating it well before humans even existed.

If you meant commercially produced products like cookies, crackers, cakes and so on, then no, it is not good for dogs. Commercial foods contain things that the body of a dog does not want or need, such as salt, sugar and excessive fats. Dogs that consume commercially produced human food have about five years slashed off their life expectancy.

Only some, like eggs, chicken with no bones or skin, veggies. ABOSLUTLY NO SALT

It's not the best to feed to them, although some food is better than others.

DON'T feed them: Grapes, chocolate, raisins, cocoa, coffee, tea, mushrooms, and onions. these are not the only toxic foods for dogs. So just to be safe, stick with the dog food :)
