What is the difference between flu and phlegm?
Phlegm is the same thing as sputum, which is the stuff you cough up when you have a cold. The flu is influenza which is a respiratory disease that is caused by influenza viruses. When you have the flu, you usually cough up a lot of phlegm. But phlegm is not only caused by the flu, it can be caused by a cold, pneumonia, smoking irritation, bronchitis, asthma and many other conditions involving the lungs and respiratory system.
