The iPad can use SOME external USB gear. It cannot use printers, hard drives, scanners, network hardware or mice through USB. It can connect to cameras, compatible audio and MIDI interfaces, chargers, sync cables and Some USB keyboards.

How do you sync all of the information on an iPad to a USB?
You cannot use a USB storage media for sending storage on an iPad. You need a computer with iTunes. You could make a backup using iTunes and store that backup on a USB drive, but you still need iTunes to restore it to the iPad.
