yeh it is a double membrane bound organelle. the inner membrane is heavily folded for a large surface are for enzyme activity. its function is the synthesis, modification and distribution of protiens.

What is the structure of endoplasmic reticulum?

Endoplasmic reticulum has network of cisternae. Cisterna is phospholipid membrane that encloses a space (lumen) from cytosol. Cytosol contains water and macromolecules. Cisternae are held together by cytoskeleton.Endoplasmic reticulum containing ribosomes (small spherical organelles) on its membrane is called rough endoplasmic reticulum.

Which cellular structure has single membrane?

Most of them. Lysosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi apparatus, peroxisome, vacuoles all have single membranes. Nucleus has double membrane to make it less permeable, chloroplasts have membrane bound structures (thylakoid) inside its two membranes, and mitochondria have larger membrane that is folded within the outer membrane for added surface area.

What is smooth endplasmic reticulum?

Endoplasmic reticulum is an organelle present in cells. There are 2 types: - smooth endoplasmic reticulum - rough endoplasmic reticulum The rough endoplasmic reticulum has ribosomes on its surface whereas the smooth one doesn't

Proteins are arranged in structural units called?

The small membrane bound structures inside the cells are called cell organelles. Cell organelles are usually classified on the basis of their membranes. They are membrane less- ribosomes and centrosomes, single membrane- golgi body and endoplasmic reticulum and double membrane like plastids and mitochondria.

Is vesicle single or double membrane?

The vesicle is a single membrane, where a vacuole is a double membrane.

What is an endoplasmic reticulum like?

It is connected with plasma membrane and nuclear envelope. It is single membranous organell. It is made up flat membranous plates and tubules.

The Endoplasmic Reticulum is a folded single membrane organelle that may have?

The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) comes in twom varieties: rough ER and smooth ER.Rough ER has ribosomes attached to the cytosol side of the membrane. Ribosomes are the sites of protein synthesis so rough ER is concerned with synthesising and transporting proteins.Smooth ER lacks ribosomes and is concerned with the synthesis of some lipids.

What are membrane enclosed organelles?

The components of the cells which have outer membrane are called membrane bound or membrane enclosed organelles. Example: Nucleus, mitochondria and chloroplast are bound by two membranes. Lysosomes, Endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi-apparatus are bound by single membrane. On contrast ribosomes are not having any protective membrane. Sreekala.K.P
