Yes and no. Technically, pure water cannot change color. However, by dissolving chemicals in water, you can change the melting point. If the chemical used to color the water contains salt such as sodium chloride, it can cause it to melt faster as the salt dissolves into the ice, which is why we throw salt on ice to make it melt faster.

∙ 14y agoIf the ice cube is faced on the sun, the colour on which it is placed on will not affect much its melting process, but if you get for example a torch and an ice cube, and you put in between them a coloured paper or thin plastic opaque coloured sheet (from bottom to top so the ice is on the plastic sheet and not right in the direction of the light from the torch (and there is now light hitting the ice, only a little to see it)) the colour will affect the melting process a lot. For example, black colour reflects very, very little light, and absorbs most of it, so black colour heats up quickly and warms up the ice to make it melt quicker, while light colours such as white, reflect most of the light and doesn't heat up quickly, making the ice melt slower.
Ps:(I did not use a coloured paper in the experiment because the ice, when melting will make the paper wet and it may break causing the ice to fall....)

∙ 13y agoIt would make a good experiment! Assumedly , the answer is "yes". If two identically sized ice cubes are put in direct sunlight, and one is made of distilled water, and one is made of distilled water dyed purple with red and blue food coloring, the purple cube should melt faster, because it's darker surface should absorb more heat. But as I said: A good experiment. Try it!
