There are no greenhouse gases on Mercury. Just a very thin atmosphere of helium and hydrogen. So it has no greenhouse effect. Its surface ranges in temperature from -270°F to 800°F (-168°C to 427°C).

The planet Mercury is very hot because it is the closest planet to the sun, not because of the greenhouse effect - but the second planet from the sun, Venus, does have an extremely powerful greenhouse effect which contributes to its high temperature. Venus is the horrible example of what could happen to the Earth if things get completely out of hand.

No, since it has no atmosphere to effect the planet in the same way.

Mercury has no atmosphere.

To have a greenhouse effect this requires an atmosphere to hold the heat.

The high surface temperatures of this planet have been attributed to the greenhouse effect?

Venus has a very thick atmosphere of Carbon dioxide. Its average surface pressure is a crushing 93 bar, or 93 times that of Earths. Venus is the hottest planet, as it is close to the sun, but additionally, its thick arbon Dioxide atmosphere holds the heat very effectively like an oven - or greenhouse.

Which planet in our solar system has a greenhouse effect that causes extremely high surface temperatures?

Venus has a very hot greenhouse effect. In fact, it makes Venus the hottest planet in the solar system. The thick carbon dioxide atmosphere holds the heat very effectively, like a runaway greenhouse effect. Surface temperatures on Venus average 900° Fahrenheit, 735° Kelvin or 460° Celsius.

What planet in our solar system features the runaway greenhouse effect?

Venus, the second planet from the sun, is covered in clouds and has a very high surface temperature due to its greenhouse effect.Due to an excess amount of carbon dioxide (CO2), its temperature is 460 degrees Celsius or 850 Fahrenheit or 735 Kelvin. It is the hottest planet. It has a very thick atmosphere of Carbon dioxide that is considered a runaway greenhouse effect. Its average surface pressure due to the thick atmosphere is 93 bar, or 93 times that of Earth's. It is also the hottest planet. The greenhouse effect occurs on every planet with an atmosphere (including Earth). On Venus, the runaway greenhouse effect is causing temperatures high enough to melt lead. Venus lost its oceans due to its greenhouse effect.venus

What is a very hot planet?

mercury Venus is the hottest planet in the Solar System due to the fact that it has a very thick atmosphere containing hot and poisonous gas, which traps heat in. It is also the second planet from the sun. Mercury has no atmosphere, so it isn't as hot.

What planet has no moons and orbits the sun very fast?

That would be Mercury. Venus also has no moons, but does not move as fast as Mercury.

Why is mercury closer to the sun than venus is?

Because Venus has a very thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide that retains the heat due to the greenhouse effect.

Which planet is the wormest planet in your solar system?

Venus. It's much hotter than Mercury, which is closer to the sun than Venus. The hotter temperature on Venus is due to the "greenhouse gas" effect. All the clouds on Venus keep the temperature from escaping into space, so Venus gets heat from the sun, and very little escapes back into space. Mercury has no atmosphere, so there is no "greenhouse gas effect" on Mercury.

What planet has more greenhouse effect?

Venus. Similar to Earth in many ways, a runaway greenhouse effect is thought responsible for its 900°F (480°C) surface temperature.

What are the two types of greenhouse effect?

The natural greenhouse effect keeps the earth warm enough for life. The enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect (caused by burning fossil fuels and deforestation) leads to global warming and climate change.(There is also the very dangerous runaway greenhouse effect that happened on Venus.)

How is the atmosphere of Venus different from that of other planets?

It has a strong greenhouse effect and its atmosphere is so thick it holds in heat in such a way that it is hotter than Mercury, even though Mercury is closer it the sun, because Mercury has no atmosphere. It is also, near the surface, very high in sulfuric acid vapor.

Why is Venus a grim warning from our planet?

It is very hot because of its very powerful "greenhouse effect".

What other planets have greenhouse gases?

Two other planets besides Earth.Venus has a runaway greenhouse effect, with most of its atmosphere carbon dioxide, and a temperature of 460° Celsius.Mars has a very faint greenhouse effect, with a little carbon dioxide, but hardly any atmosphere at all.Saturn's largest moon, Titan, has a greenhouse effect, with large concentrations of methane.

Planet that is very hot because of the greenhouse effect and that has sulfuric acid in its clouds?

I believe that is Venus.

Does a planet need an atmosphere to have a greenhouse effect?

Yes. It is the atmosphere that traps heat. There is no greenhouse effect on the moon, which essentially has no atmosphere. In addition, the atmosphere should have heat absorbing gases. Nitrogen and oxygen trap very little heat, so their "greenhouse effect" is minimal. Using nitrogen to trap heat is like using a metal porch screen as a blanket. It is not very effective.

Temperatures on venus are very high due to a strong what?

Greenhouse effect. Venus has a very high surface temperature due to its greenhouse effect. Its atmosphere contains 96.5% carbon dioxide (CO2), and its temperature is 460° Celsius, 850° Fahrenheit or 735° Kelvin.

The greenhouse effect is very pronounced on Venus but doesn't exist on Mercury why?

Venus has a very thick atmosphere so it keeps a more consistent hot temperature and continually takes in heat. Then it releases much less at night than it absorbs during the day. Mercury has almost no atmosphere, so it gets hot during the day but immediately gets very cold at night.
