Personally, I disagree with the logic used by those above. If the bubbles are up, there will be larger surface area to absorb the sun's heat. Increased levels of heat absorption seems more important than the rate of heat transfer, especially when considering the fact that heat transfer takes place almost instantaniously.****i have tried it both ways, bubbles up or down. makes little or no difference heating. with bubbles down, though, it is easier to clean debrie off the cover and keep it clean.

∙ 16y agoWhen I purchased my solar cover I was told to have the bubbles down. This is logical since the bubble side is gray in color and the flat side is blue.
Yes, and you want the bubbles that collected the heat to be in the water to add to the temp.

They are the same thing basically. Pool Cover, Solar Cover, solar Blanket are all used interchangeably. It's basically some material, usually a plastic bubble mesh or vinyl covering that goes over the pool. The exception to this is Winter Cover which generally is heavier and designed to protect your pool during long winter months.

Yes. You want clear plastic for a solar still, because you want the sunlight to heat the wet material inside, not the black plastic cover.

How do solar pool covers work?
The pic associated with this answer has nothing to do with a Solar Cover or Solar Blanket. It looks as if these are solar panels for electricity. Solar blankets look like a stronger version of bubble wrap. Their primary purpose when they are laid on the water (bubble side down) is to keep whatever warmth the pool water has in it from escaping into the cooler air at night. They are usually a light blue or clear in color. Clear allows more sunlight into the pool to heat the water better.
