Best Answer

Yes, but its rate of angular axial rotation matches its rate of angular orbital rotation about the Earth. Thus the moon's day matches our month (one lunar orbit), and so the moon always presents the same face to us.

== == Both the rotation of the Moon and its revolution around Earth takes 27 days, 7 hours, and 43 minutes. This is why we always see the same face / side of the moon. You may have seen a couple of different measures for the orbit of the moon around the earth: about 27.32 days, and about 29.53 days. What's up with this? How can it be both? They are both correct, and it's not easy to explain. 27.32 days is the true orbital period of the moon around the earth, and 29.53 days is the synodic period, the length of time for each full lunar cycle of phases. See the link for more information.

The moon is fimilar,It always looks the same.we know that the eath rotates, thats why the sun,the moon and stars, seems to move through the sky everday.but does the moon rotate? and if the moon rotates, then why do we always see the sides-it never seems to change.well the moon does rotate,in fact the moon takes 27.3 to turn once on its axis. But the moons axis is very inprtant to the moon.

Thank you
the moon uses it ecolateral spin cycle to change the rotation entirely

It may not be obvious at first, but the moon certainly spins. No one disputes that the moon orbits the earth. Since the moon always shows the same side to the earth, wherever it is in its orbit, the moon must be spinning. It is just that it spins exactly once for every single orbit of the earth that it makes. You have to practice thinking "outside the box", or "outside the earth", in order to get this clearly.

The word is "rotate", not "revolve". The word "revolve" is used for movements around OTHER objects - thus, the Moon revolves around Earth, both together revolve around the Sun.

Yes, the Moon rotates around its axis. But it takes almost an entire month for one rotation.

Good question. We cannot be certain of the cause of the Earth's rotation; perhaps the spinning nebular cloud from which the Earth, the Sun and the other planets all formed each imparted the spin to the planets.

The earth may orbit because of the earth's gravitational field being distorted by space dust, the moon, GOD, etc., and the field snaps back into place in a position where it is not disturbed, thus causing the earth to spin with it. Evoloution does not exist. If you study it like I have, you may notice all the flaws, and that things are just being made up because scientists refuse to believe that there is a God who would make everything and put it into motion.

No. The earth and moon both revolve around their common center of mass. Since the earth's mass is almost 82 times the moon's mass, their common center of mass has to be 82 times farther from the moon's center than it is from the earth's center. This condition actually places their common center of mass inside the earth. So if you were watching from outside, you'd see the moon revolving at a distance of about 1/4 million miles, while the earth is doing a little wobble around a point about 2/3 of the way from its center to its surface. To answer your question ... the moon does revolve around a location that's inside the earth, but it's not the axis of the earth's rotation. Note: Even this is a simplification, because it completely ignores the influence of the sun in the whole monthly dance. The sun has a profound influence on the relative motions of the earth and moon; but to the point of the question, the sun's influence moves the center of the moon's revolution even farther from the earth's axis of rotation, so the conclusion stated above is valid.

No. The Moon can be truly said to be "as dead as the Moon". The Moon has no known plant life, not even yeast or fungi, and no known animal life. There is no surface water, although there apparently is considerable amounts of frozen water in deep sunless craters near the south pole.

the moon is locked in phase with the earth so it does not rotate.....it does revolve around the earth tho

What about the moon's rotation and revolution ? Are you asking about

the duration of time for each one ? In that case, the answer is "yes".

How is biosphere useful to man?

Man is a biological organism (as are women as well) and as such, needs to eat, to breathe, and to have a place to live; these things are made possible by the biosphere. If we compare the Earth to, for example, the Moon, which has no biosphere, we see that it would be much harder to live there. We would have to create our own artificial biosphere or habitat, in order to live on the Moon.

What is the weather like outside of the moon's biosphere?

The moon has no atmosphere, hence it has no weather and no biosphere. It has no biodome, either. There is no colony on the moon, no one lives there. It is a lifeless rock in space. That may change some day, but that's how it is in the year 2010.
