A mother of the bride looks best in a color that is complementary to the bride's dress. In doing this, she matches the overall theme and tenor of the wedding itself.

A good rule of thumb is to select a color that may be similar to the color of the bridesmaids' dresses.

For example, if the bridesmaids' dresses are lavender, a mother of the bride could select an outfit in plum, lilac or light blue.

Another good rule of thumb is to select something in a neutral color, such as taupe, brown or navy.

It is preferable that the mother-of-the-groom and the mother-of-the-bride should not be in the same color, but rather in colors which coordinate.

The mother of the bride's dress should complement the color or colors of the wedding. The mother of the groom's dress should also do so but the mother of the bride makes her choice of a gown first. That is, whether it is the color, length of dress, formal or semi formal, etc. For more information and tips, try www.audreysmotherofthebride.com. See the section that says "Tips and Advice". For those on the better side of the Atlantic then try www.thebridesmother.co.uk. This company specialises in mother of the bride and special occasion wear and has a wealth of useful information on their website. The mother of the bride/groom should never wear the exact same color gown that the bridesmaids are wearing. Rather the color and style should complement the bridal party.

Not usually, the mother of the bride tends to wear colours that compliment the bridal party rather then match them.

Colors that complement the bridal party are for example, if the colors are pink, the mother of the bride could perhaps wear dark pink, fuchsia, rose. I think you get the idea. Usually there are two colors for the wedding and so that would open up more choices for colors to wear for the mother of the bride or groom. it's not that they should or shouldn't, it's if they want to, although at most weddings I've been to the mother of the bride was wearing a very slightly different color than the bridesmaids, etc.

And also, wear different color from the bride's gown.

Yes the brides mother is important but it is the brides day not hers so the mother should dress like all the other brides maids

ANSWER:

Traditionally, the mother of the bride wears a bright color in the same color family as the bridesmaid's gowns. The mother of the groom wears a more subdued shade, such as beige.

Answer: The mothers should coordinate, but not match. They do not need to wear the same color as the bridesmaids. However, they should both wear the same length, and neither should wear black, as it is not a funeral. "A more subdued shade" could be any pastel.

This question asks for an opinion. In my opinion, I would say yes, because then, the wedding reception will seem a bit more perspective to the view.

Is it proper for the mother of the bride to wear a red dress when the brides dress has a lot of red in it doesn't that take away from the bride?

No woman going to the wedding should wear the exact color of the bride. In the case of this bride wearing a wedding dress with a lot of red in it then it is fine if the mother wears a more solid color of dress or it will take away from the bride. The bride is the focal point and thus, the wedding party and female guests should not dress in the colors of the bride. This is up to you, the bride. Oftentimes, the bride will want the mother of the bride to wear a dress that is complementary to the colors of the wedding. In this case, the secondary color of your wedding dress is red. So, it is appropriate for the MOB to wear a solid red dress or a dress that has red tones in it alongside another color or colors. This really does not take away from the bride's dress or the bride herself.

Have long chiffon dress. Color and style appropriate. Wondering about muted print. Cannot find information about wearing dress with print. Is it OK for the mother of the bride to wear this dress?

Yes, it is fine for the mother of the bride to wear a long chiffon dress in a muted color. Take your daughter's wedding dress and put it up against your dress. If the dress looks too muted and is white in color then you should not wear it because the bride should always be the focal point in the wedding; but if the dress looks fine and the muted print will show up when the photographer takes pictures then it's fine to wear.
