Directly behind the battery. Yellow round handle.

You may want to check to see if the transmission line that runs underneath your battery is pinched. We recently had the same experience, and it was determined that when the battery was replaced, the transmission line was pinched because it sits directly underneath the battery.

The backup switch is on top of the transmission directly below the battery. @ wires to it

Which one? There are three. The battery ground runs from the negative pole on the battery to somewhere on the chassis. There's one on the transmission, and the one for the engine runs between the valve cover and the plate the hood striker is in. Which one? There are three. The starter is located near the bottom front of the engine. You can follow the positive battery cable, from the battery directly to the starter.

what is the cost to replace a battery in a volkswagen beetle 2002

User Avatar

All starters are somewhere near the flywheel or flexplate, as the starter turns the flywheel or flexplate. That is located between the transmission and engine, but not visable. You will find a heavy gauge wire attached to the starter that will directly or indirectly run back to the battery positive terminal.

On my 1996 Geo Tracker automatic transmission 4wd it's located (in the engine compartment) on the passenger directly behind the intake (to the driver side of the battery) I hope that helps

There are two cables that run from the starter relay on the drivers side fender wall and both of those wires run through a loom, behind the battery, down to the bottom of the transmission housing and over to the starter mounting bolts. There are 3 bolts that secure the battery cables in place: The first one is on the drivers fender wall behind the battery. The second is on the bottom of the transmission housing near the fender, but the bolt is directly secured to the transmission housing I think. If it isn't the transmission then it is around there somewhere, because I can't remember that particular bolt location. The third bolt is the bracket attached to the starter mounting bolts. That should take care of unfastening the battery cables loom, at that point, you should be able to remove the battery cables from the car as long as they are not connected to the battery, starter relay and the starter solenoid. I forgot the second bolt, because it was tricky to maneuver a rachet into the area and loosen the bolt.

Not if it is a manual transmission. And it's "AFFECT" not "Effect"

the sensor that tells your engine when the clutch is engaged will be located somewhere on the transmission itself depending on the year. my 96's was right on top under the battery.
