Does having a cosigner help your credit?

Yes, having a cosigner on a loan or line of credit/ credit card can help your credit. It can help because, assuming they have good credit, you are more likely to get approved, which gives you a chance to build your credit. The danger is if the cosigner where to default on payments or abuse the account (such as using a credit card you both are signers on to rack up a lot of debt). So if you pick your cosigner carefully it can help you- but remember what you do on the account effects their credit, so make sure you are also responsible with the account.

Does breaking a lease hurt cosigners credit?

That is why the cosigner is there. To back up the contract if you bail.

If you have a cosigner on your apartment lease will your credit be affected as much as it would if you did not have a cosigner?

Renting an apartment or home will not show up on your credit. That just builds up rental history for yourself. The only time a renter will ever report you to a credit agency is if you move out with a balance that was not paid within 14 to 30 days of your move out.

How do you remove a cosigner from a credit card?

The way that can be accomplished is determined by the terms of the lending agreement. Very few, if any lending institutions would allow an account to be amended. The usual procedure is for the account to be closed leaving the original cosigner still responsible to the debt incurred up to the time of closure. The primary holder can then open another account on there own or with another cosigner.

If the cosigner dies can she simply be dropped as cosigner without refinancing or is the property part of her estate and must go into secession?

Dropped as cosignor??? NO NO NO. You NEEDED a cosignor to get the loan rem? Unless your credit has improved greatly since then, you still need one. Dropping cosignors from loans is STRICTLY up to the LENDER who makes the loan.

I just bought a new car but two days later the dealership called and said i need a cosigner I found one and they have very good credit should my APR and monthly payment go down with a cosigner?

No because you applied for the loan with YOUR credit. For whatever reason (you have the right to find out why) the dealership decided you were too big of a risk to be granted the loan you requested. The purpose of the cosigner is that in case you mess up your cosigner will be responsible for the loan.

Who do you contact for a cosigner information to show up on their credit report?

You don't have to contact anyone. The lender will report information on the primary borrower, cosigner, joint owner, guarantor, and other relationships.

If your car was repossessed but redeemed by the cosigner can the bank report a repossession on your credit but not on the cosigner's?

VERY possible. reporting repos is up to the LENDER(of course, they usually do). It was very much repoed from you sooo. Nothing you can do about the co-signor having or not having a repo on their credit.

Dose it hurt your credit if a cosigner files bankruptcy on there car?

If you have co-signed and the primary borrower has defaulted, you will need to step up and pay. If not then it will hurt your credit rating.

If you have fair credit should you apply for a loan on your own or with a cosigner who has bad credit but more income and assets to get a lower rate?

I would try to get the loan on my own and build MY credit up. Its a personal choice.
