Yes. But better to just run OS/X all the time, and rely on VMware Fusion for occasional XP tasks.

You can also partition the hard drive so you can run both Mac OSX and Windows fully. VMWare fusion is probably an easier alternative at this point though. In order to run windows you must buy the newest version of VMWare fusion, as well as the newest version of windows.

The original Mac OS was released in versions from Mac OS 1 to Mac OS 9.2.2 with early versions (1 to 8.1) compiled to run on Motorola 680x0 family microprocessors and later versions (7.5.2 to 9.2.2) compiled to run on PowerPC family microprocessors. Versions from Mac OS 1 to Mac OS 7.5.5 were originally called System 1 to System 7.5.5 with the name "Mac OS" not becoming official until Mac OS 7.6 was released. The operating system was a derivative of Apple's Lisa OS and Xerox's Alto.

The later Mac OS X was released in versions from Mac OS X 10.1 to Mac OS X 10.11 with early versions (10.1 to 10.5) compiled to run on PowerPC family microprocessors and later versions (10.4 to 10.11) compiled to run on Intel 80x86 family microprocessors. The operating system was a complete rewrite built around the Mach Kernel and Berkley Unix, building on OPENSTEP for the Next computer.

It is possible to configure the Mac to boot other operating systems (e.g. Windows, Linux) if they are installed on separate partitions of the disk (or different physical disks).
