have the alternator tested or replaced
Ignition switch is going bad. Will have to replace it. Because eventually the truck will not restart at all.
if your truck is running and you disconect the batery and the truck dies then its the alt
check that choke is operating correctly
check all vacuum lines for leaks
With the car or truck running disconnect only the positive side of the battery ... if it stays running that means the alternator is good if it dies then it needs replacing
Argos, Odysseus' faithful hunting dog, recognized Odysseus and dies immediately afterward.
car dies when running then hard to start ,if it will start
I had a similar problem on a Ford truck and it turned out to be the ignition switch. The truck would start just fine but when I released the ignition key the truck would die. I replaced the switch and problem was gone.
Warning Light OperationBoth the "battery" and "oil" idiot lights turn off when the engine is running and thus indicates that the alternator is putting out current to recharge the battery, and the oil pump is circulating enough oil to maintain a safe oil pressure to protect the running engine. When your vehicle "dies," that means the engine is not running, and thus these indicator lights tell you that the alternator is not putting out current, and the oil pressure is below a preset level.
Usually a pulsing lights means that some component in the charging system is not working right. Probably the alternator, but it could also be a bad battery that is not holding enough charge. Always check the battery and alternator connections first to eliminate corroded or loose connections. The alternator should run everything with out being connected to the battery while running. Start the truck and then disconnect the negative cable if the truck dies then the alternator is going bad or has bad connections. I aways replace the battery and the alternator together. That leaves me no guess work later. Good luck.
