Believe it or not, they had very similar jobs as there are today. Of course, they did not have website designers or computer programmers, but they did have many jobs that would be recognised today.
There would be merchants, market traders, farmers, cleaners, builders - and even plumbers! We actually get the name 'plumber' from Roman Latin - it means 'he who works with lead' (that is why the Chemical Symbol for lead is Pb) as they used to use lead to make water pipes in those times.
Jesus himself was a carpenter. Matthew a tax collector. Peter was a fisherman as was his brother Andrew. There would be scribes (or secretaries) bodyguards, soldiers of course, sailors, council officials, priests, doctors and lawyers. There were couriers, bankers and moneychangers. Shopkeepers, fast food outlets, bakers, butchers, butlers and farmers. There were also, for women (and men!) some 'occupations' that were rather unwholesome and which you might only find in the red-light districts of big cities today!
In fact, although we are technologically advanced these days, the human need for certain services and goods spans across time, and so, where there is a need for a commodity or service then it matters not when that need arises, for either nowadays, or then, someone will want to deliver the goods in order to make a living.
