The Book of Tobit tells the story of a righteous Israelite of the Tribe of Naphtali named Tobit living in Nineveh after the deportation of the northern tribes of Israel to Assyria in 721 BC under Sargon II. (The first two and a half chapters are written in the first person.) He was particularly noted for his diligence in attempting to provide proper burials for fallen Israelites who had been slain by Sennacherib, for which the king seized all his property and exiled him. After Sennacherib's death, he was allowed to return to Nineveh, but again buried a dead man who had been murdered on the street. That night, he slept in the open and was blinded by bird droppings that fell in his eyes. This put a strain on his marriage, and ultimately, he prayed for death. Meanwhile, in faraway Media, a young woman named Sarah prays for death in despair. She has lost seven husbands to the demon of lust -- Ashmodai who abducts and kills every man she marries on their wedding night before the marriage can be consummated. God sends the angel Raphael, disguised as a human, to heal Tobit and to free Sarah from the demon. The main narrative is dedicated to Tobit's son, Tobiah or Tobiyah (Greek: Τωβίας/ Tobias), who is sent by his father to collect a sum of money that the latter had deposited some time previously in the far off land of Media. Raphael represents himself as Tobit's kinsman Azariah, and offers to aid and protect Tobias on his journey. Under the guidance of Raphael, Tobias makes the journey to Media, accompanied by his dog. Along the way, he is attacked by a giant fish, whose heart, liver and gall bladder are removed to make medicines. Upon arriving in Media, Raphael tells Tobias of the beautiful Sarah, whom Tobias has the right to marry, because she is related to his tribe. He instructs the young man to burn the fish's liver and heart to drive away the demon when he attacks on the wedding night. The two are married, and the fumes of the burning organs drive the demon away to Upper Egypt, while Raphael follows him and binds him. Meanwhile, Sarah's father has been digging a grave to secretly bury Tobias (who he assumes will be dead). Surprised to find his son-in-law alive and well, he orders a double-length wedding feast and has the grave secretly filled. Since he cannot leave because of the feast, Tobias sends Raphael to recover his father's money. After the feast, Tobias and Sarah return to Nineveh. There, Raphael tells the youth to use the fish's gall to cure his father's blindness. Raphael then reveals his true identity and returns to heaven. Tobit sings a hymn of praise. He tells his son to leave Nineveh before God destroys it according to prophecy. After the prayer, Tobit dies at an advanced age.[2] After burying his father, Tobias returns to Media with his family.

Is Castiel an angel in the Bible?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There are only three angels named in the Bible: The archangels Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, so no, Castiel is not an angel mentioned in the Bible.

More about Castiel: Castiel is a fictional character on the television series Supernatural. If the producers Kripke and Singer got their inspiration for him from anywhere in particular, they seem to be rather quiet on the matter. His name does not appear in the Bible or other Judeo-Christian writings. Although his name is theophoric, that is it embeds one of the many names of God, "El," the name Castiel does not have scriptural roots.

While there are only three angels mentioned in the Bible, there are multiple mentions of demonic names and most of the information we have surrounding such beings as angels and demons come from other spiritual writings from Judaism and Islam. The demon Azazel, another thorphoric name ("Azaz" means "rugged" or "rough" in several Aramaic dialects), has appeared as a character in at least one other production besides Supernatural; he is featured in the movie Fallen with Denzel Washington and John Goodman.

Additional Comments:

Though not mentioned in the Bible, Cassiel is the Latin name of an archangel in post-biblical Judeo-Christian religion, particularly that of the Kabbalah. Unlike many other angels, Cassiel is known for simply watching the events of the cosmos unfold with little interference. He is the angel of solitude and tears, and is said to preside over the deaths of kings. He is often included in lists as being one of the seven archangels and often associated with the Seventh Heaven.

In Jewish mysticism and Mesopotamian mythology, Cassiel is associated with the planet Saturn, the day of the week Thursday, and the direction north. He is the controller of the moon.

In the magical text Berit Menuchah, Cassiel is associated with Kefitzat Haderech, the ability to travel quickly through space. Magic spells using his name are cast to create destruction, to scatter crowds, to cause a person to wander aimlessly, or to fall from a position of power.

Ancient Hebrew amulets bearing his name are used to drive away one's enemies. The words on the charm are written with the blood of a bird and then tied to the foot of a dove. The dove is then set to flight, taking one's enemy with it. Should the bird refuse to fly, it is a sign that one's enemies won't depart either.

The only angels named in the Bible are Michael, Gabriel and of course Satan or Lucifer the chief fallen angel. No other names are given. There are a few other named angels in apocryphal books like the Book of Enoch. Beyond that you go off into totally unscriptural waters.

Do angels have souls?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Of course Angels have souls. Or they have souls in the sense that they have morals and ethics. They live with God and apparently God- nor Jesus for that matter -have killed out of hatred or spite. In my books, having a soul means having a sense of right or wrong. Being soulless means that you feel no remorse or passion even. No feeling. Like vampires. And honestly, Angels are the farthest thing from. I hope that answers your question. :)

Why did angels fall?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

they're all evil

Answer:

The reason is perhaps the biggest deception in a world of "religious confusion."

When most people consider "God"... He's not usually regarded as having anything to do with REALITY; but as some "other-worldly" existence that's not pertinent to real life cares, problems and global issues.

Yet, God OWNS THE UNIVERSE! This world and the entire universe is all under God's jurisdiction... under HIS LAWS [the laws of nature, as men say]... under HIS GOVERNMENTAL RULE.

Contrary to popular consideration of the God of the Bible... it continually talks about GOVERNMENT: man's errant rule on the earth under the ministering hand of this world's god whom man worships; and the pending establishment of God's Governmental rule under Jesus Christ, that will soon remove both man's governments and this world's god, Satan the Devil.

Of this world's "god"... the Bible tells those with the eyes to see and the heart to believe it, that sometime in the beginning of creation, he tried to "depose" God from His throne in heaven through a "government coup attempt" that was thwarted by God and the angels that remained loyal to Him, His laws and His Government.

Satan [then, Lucifer] coerced one-third of God's angels to follow him in that "government takeover."

"For you said to yourself, 'I WILL ASCEND TO HEAVEN and SET MY THRONE ABOVE THE STARS OF GOD..." (Isa.14:13 NLT New Living Translation).

This is the ONLY passage in the Bible that comes close to saying "go to heaven"... the one main thing many of this world's religions seem to look forward to doing at the conclusion of their mortal lives. But, it's not the promise of God... IT'S THE HOPE AND FONDEST DREAM OF SATAN THE DEVIL, TO OVERTURN THE GOVERNMENT OF GOD IN THE UNIVERSE!

Isaiah goes on to reveal from the core of Satan's heart: "...I will climb to the highest heavens and BE LIKE THE MOST HIGH.'" (verse 14)

The KJV says: "I will ascend above the heights of the clouds...".

Clouds are a phenomenon that occurs within the earth's atmosphere... so, Satan was "standing on the earth" when he said this. He was taking his "rebellion against God's Government" to the very throne of God in heaven. He wanted [and still wants] to BE GOD!

"Then there was war in heaven. Michael and the angels under his command fought the Dragon [Satan - see verse 9] and his angels. And the Dragon lost the battle and was forced out of heaven." (Rev.12:7 NLT)

That's why they were "banished from heaven." They had "broken the laws of God's Government" -- they SINNED! ["Those who sin are opposed to the Law of God, for ALL SIN OPPOSES THE LAW OF GOD." - I John 3:4 NLT]

This was the "original SIN" in the universe -- the rebellion of Satan and his angels against the universal governmental rule of their Creator.

The Bible also tells us that their sin has not yet been Judged by God; but that they were "cast down to the earth" and have been and are being restrained on the earth, pending Judgment Day... the Last Great Day of God's plan that includes the "restoration of the rule of God's Government on the earth" [the coming Kingdom of God] that they perverted and destroyed, and the Redemption and Salvation of mankind who presently worships these banished false, would-be gods.

"...I remind you of the angels who did not stay within the limits of authority God gave them but left the place where they belonged. God has kept them chained in prisons of darkness, waiting for the Day of Judgment." (Jude 1:6 NLT)

The Bible is all about GOVERNMENT! That's its message... its "good news" [gospel]. It's about the restoration of God's rule on the earth that these wicked angels destroyed in the beginning; as Jesus teaches in His "prayer outline":

"May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven." (Matt.6:10 NLT)

Satan and his angels FAILED to depose God in heaven. The Government of God is INTACT EVERYWHERE IN THE UNIVERSE... except on earth... the place where these angels first held their authority within God's Government, but destroyed when they sinned.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, defeated Satan as the ruler on earth in the famed biblical "temptation account" [see Matthew's and Luke's chapters 4]... and in so doing, qualified Himself to become the KING of God's pending Government restoration. It wasn't until AFTER this defeat of Satan that Jesus began His ministry and began preaching the Kingdom of God. Because God now had the Faithful, Loyal replacement for the former rebellious ruler on earth... HIS OWN SON the KING... who would restore the Kingdom to the earth; as well as become the Perfect Sacrifice to redeem man from his bondage to "the master and originator of sin," whom he worships.

"...the Holy Spirit compelled Jesus to go into the wilderness. He was there for forty days being tempted by Satan. He was out among the wild animals, and angels took care of Him. Later on, after John was arrested... Jesus went to Galilee to preach God's Good News. 'At last the time has come!' He announced. 'The Kingdom of God is near! Turn from your sins [repent] and BELEIVE THIS GOOD NEWS!'" (Mark 1:12-15 NLT)

Well... the world doesn't believe this Good News. The world barely knows about this Good News, because the god of this world and his angels have blinded tbe hearts and minds of men to it. They have "spiritualized" it away in man's deceived heart through the false religions in the world. The Truth of God's Word is not REAL to most men.

They still don't realize that God's perverted Government on earth is about to undergo a radical change:

"For a child is born to us, a Son is given to us. And THE GOVERNMENT will rest on His shoulders... His ever-expanding, Peaceful GOVERNMENT will NEVER END. He will rule forever with Fairness and Justice from the throne of His ancestor David. The passionate commitment of the LORD Almighty will GUARANTEE this!" (Isa.9:6-7 NLT)

The world looks right through this Scripture and sees it as a "religious statement! " But, it's not. It's a POLITICAL one!

Why were angels banished from heaven?

To prevent their sin from infecting the entire universe. To restrict it for the time being, to the "scene of the crime"... the earth... where the plot was hatched in the heart of Satan to destroy the Government of God.

After the Trial at the Last Great Day... the universe will be accessible to man, now the Immortal Children and Family of God... to do what God does best -- CREATE THINGS. The Family of God that will then number as the stars in the heavens, will colonize those stars, creating new worlds heretofore undreamed of by deceived man.

Judgment Day is coming. The angels that sinned were banished from heaven to the earth until their sins are properly and Honorably Judged in a manner worthy of God.

"...He will never Judge by appearance, false evidence, or hearsay. He will defend the poor and exploited. He will rule against the wicked and destroy them with the breath of His mouth. He will be clothed with Fairness and Truth." (Isa.11:3-5 NLT)

And He will call upon those men who overcome through Jesus Christ the tests and trials of these banished angels on the earth... who have been teaching mankind the bottomless depths of sins only they know. The King will call upon His Faithful servants to assist Him on Judgment Day:

"Do you not know that God's people will SIT IN JUDGMENT UPON THE WORLD? ...Do you not know that WE ARE TO SIT IN JUDGMENT UPON ANGELS - to say nothing of things belonging to this life?" (I Cor.6:2-3 WEY Weymouth's New Testament)

God has banished these rebellious angels from heaven for a time here on earth, until they can teach His future Children [mankind, created in His image] just how horrible and deadly sin is. For how can anyone Judge and make Just, Righteous, "informed decisions" if they have never experienced both aspects of life; the good and the bad -- and come out on the other side Perfected, Righteous and Cleansed; and assisted by God Himself... and those angels He tasked, who did NOT SIN?

"Are not all angels spirits that serve Him - whom He sends out to render service for the benefit of those who, before long, will inherit Salvation?" (Heb.1:14 WEY)

Mankind is being tested by and subject to those banished angels who sinned... showering mankind with a lifetime of "experience" in the ways of sin; disobedience to the laws of God's Government. It's a horrifying, terrifying, deadly lesson that will last mankind for all ETERNITY. For those who reject the evil ways of these angels and seek God's Mercy and Salvation... they will Eternally reject disobedience and evil and be given Eternal Life. For those who embrace the ways of the banished angels... they will suffer the effects of the "Second Death" on the Day of Judgment -- ETERNAL DEATH:

"...this is the Second Death - the Lake of Fire. And if anyone's name was not found recorded in the Book of Life he was thrown into the Lake of Fire." (Rev.20:14-15 WEY)

These are some of the reasons why angels were banished from heaven.
