Anne Hathaway (Shakespeare)

Anne Hathaway was the wife of William Shakespeare. She was born in either 1555 or 1556 and died in 1623. She and William married in November 1582 while Anne was pregnant with their first child. Anne was mentioned by Shakespeare in many of his sonnets. For example, the words "Hate Away" in Sonnet 145 are believed to be a reference to Anne's maiden name, Hathaway. Anne and William were buried next to each other in Stratford-upon-Avon, England.

Is anne hathaway actress related to anne hathaway 1?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

According to Wikipedia, the actress's ancestry is Irish and French, not English. However, if you consider the number of possible generations between Anne Shakespeare's father and the present day there could be tens of thousands of people related to him. It is possible that some of these moved to Ireland and thence to the United States over the past 450 years or so.

The answer therefore is, there is no reason to believe so, and it is unlikely, but might be remotely possible.

What did anne hathaway do for a living 16th century?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

The 16th century Anne Hathaway (who lived well into the 17th century) was the wife of William Shakespeare the famous playwright and poet. While Shakespeare was living and working in London, Anne was living in Stratford, where their home was, looking after the children, keeping the house and trying to make ends meet. Early in Shakespeare's career, when he was struggling to earn a living, this must have been a difficult job. Later he was making more money and more steadily, and bought them a huge new house (called New Place) in Stratford. Of course looking after the big house was just that much more work for Anne. It is possible that Anne also supplemented William's income with cottage industries as many wives did, but we have no direct evidence of this.

Did william shakespeare and Anne Hathaway hate each other?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

There is no reason to suppose so. Some people think that Shakespeare's gift of the second-best bed suggests that he didn't like Anne much, but others argue that it means just the opposite, and that he didn't leave her anything else in his will because she was going to get a nice big slice of his estate anyway. If she hated him, would she have arranged for a fancy statue of him to be put up in the church?

How many kids did Anne Hathaway have?

Asked by Wiki User

Shakespeare had three children. Susannah was born in May 1583, six months after William married Anne (so Anne was pregnant at the time of the wedding).

Two years later (1585) the twins Judith and Hamnet (girl and boy) arrived.

Hamnet died in in early August 1596 (cause unknown; there was no known plague outbreak in Stratford at the time). The two girls survived to adulthood, and married.
