remove the bumper

3 bolts on each side connecting the fender.

a couple bumper washers wire connectors

the washer hose from the fluid bottle.

remove the front radiator "carriage" it swings to the pass side.

disconnect the AIR conditioner wire connector.

-- OR.. just loosen it and support it in its place... giving you room to work.

I supported mine with two five gallons buckets.

now... use a 10mm allen to remove the accessories belt.

then you can get to the alternator on the passenger bottom side of the FRONT of the motor.

I dont konw how it is connected from there.. two or three bolts and electrical connectors.

as always.. disconnect your battery FIRST.

have a good one.

How do you change oil on 2003 Audi A6 3.0 Quattro?

You will need a 36mm socket and a small torqs driver. Get it up on ramps and take the plastic cover off with the torqs and you will see the oil filter near the front of the car. There is a plastic cap which you can unscrew with your hand. Look up inside the filter and you will see the oil drain, place something under it to catch the oil, then press up and slightly over with a screw driver, oil will run down your arm. Once this drains, take the 36mm socket and remove the botom of the filter housing. Remove old paper filter and rubber O ring and replace with new. I got mine at NAPA. Make sure you move the filter drain plug back into position before you put it back on the car. It is spring loaded and should pop back into place with a little manipulation.

How do you change rear brakes and rotors on a 2000 Audi a4 1.8t quattro?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

DIFFICULTY: Beginner (easy, just make sure you put back all parts you took off)

Nearly the same as the front except you have the addition of the hand brake attached to the brake caliper/piston... so when you were doing the fronts you could use a C-clamp to push the piston back ... it's not the case with the rear as the piston needs to be screwed in not pushed in. So in this case you will need a special tool (available locally any automotive store, not expensive $16 for cheap one.. and $30-$50 professional one)

then you can get the pistons back.

and I believe there are different screws holding the brake caliper and other brake assembly parts... but you will see once you take off your tire what tools you need.

not any harder than changing the fronts.

once you change the rear... don't panic.. you will notice that your hand brake doesn't work as good the first few tries, as the brake rotors and pads are new and need to settle in and stick together so always put in gear when parked up or down hill even level road until rear brakes brake in.. since the front does most braking it will take awhile unless you pull hand brake while driving slow to brake them in faster..

if you still have weak hand brake after a while then you will have to adjust your hand brake linkage might be too loose.

Good luck!

Drain plug is on the left side of car, if you are underneath. However, this is tricky, since it needs G12 coolant, and you need to make sure that the air is COMPLETELY removed from the system. Good luck!
