Woodstock was initiated through the efforts of Michael Lang, John Roberts, Joel Rosenman and Artie Kornfeld. It was Roberts and Rosenman who had the finances. Lang had experience as a promoter and had already organized the largest festival on the East Coast at the time, the Miami Pop Festival, which had an estimated 100,000 people attend the two day event.
Singer John Sebastian is captured on film announcing that some cat's old lady just had a baby, a kid destined to be far out. A couple of surviving witnesses say there were births. The concert's medical director told reporters at the scene there were two births: one at a local hospital after the mother was flown out by helicopter; the other in a car caught in the epic traffic jam outside the site crowded with more than 400,000 people.
The idea of a Woodstock nation still exists today. When people come together and strive for a peaceful existence world wide within that group is a part of Woodstock. The event was held for 4 days in 1969, and then again in 1994 and 1999.

The youngest performer at Woodstock 1969 was Michael Shrieve. Michael was the drummer for Santana. He was born July 6th 1949, making him 20 years old at the Festival. Several other performers were 20 that year too, but Mr Shrieve was the youngest.
Henry Gross the guitarist of Sha Na Na was born April 1st 1951, which makes him 18 years old at Woodstock is the youngest.
In spite of negative news reports in the beginning, Woodstock was a success, Michael Lang did what he set out to do, put on an outdoor concert event. Considering the amount of people gathered in one place the event was historic, there was no violence and many people donated food. The organizers did not make any money, and were sued by numerous vendors and nearby farmers, so in that respect it could be seen as a disaster, but the performers, attendees and organizers don't view it as such.
Tickets for the three-day event cost $18 in advance and $24 at the gate.
